The law surrounding discrimination is clear, and the Equality Act guards against discrimination against protected characteristics. But this doesn’t mean we’ve eliminated discrimination in the tech industry.
Discrimination can be hidden in opaque salary calculations, or it can be in the open. When it’s directed against those who feel like they can’t speak up - because of power dynamics, structural racism, sexism, or ableism - those structures can keep discrimination hidden. Our survey of tech workers brought together stories that are unfortunately still prevalent everywhere across the UK. If we want to build a healthy, diverse, progressive industry, it has to be free of discrimination of all kinds.
